Two main hypotheses have been investigated: the relative income hypothesis and the absolute income hypothesis. Most of previous studies that used mortality data have been criticized for estimating an aggregate model that does not account for non-linear links between health and income at the individual level. In this paper we follow a novel approach to avoid this bias, combining aggregate mortality data with individual level data on socio-economic characteristics. We test the relative and absolute income hypotheses using county level mortality data from Life Statistic of Department of Health and individual level data from Taiwan census FIES for 1976-2003. We find that there is no strong evidence supporting either hypothesis in the case of the general population. In contrast, we find strong evidence that education does have significant effects on individuals’ health and the estimates are not sensitive to income equivalent scales.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_12_description_8":{"attribute_name":"分野","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"経済学 / Economics","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_12_publisher_12":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"GRIPS Policy Research Center ","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_12_relation_16":{"attribute_name":"関連サイト","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"https://ideas.repec.org/p/ngi/dpaper/09-01.html"}],"subitem_relation_type":"isIdenticalTo","subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://ideas.repec.org/p/ngi/dpaper/09-01.html","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_12_text_10":{"attribute_name":"発行年","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"2009-04"}]},"item_12_text_5":{"attribute_name":"著者所属","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"政策研究大学院大学 / National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies; Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (Italy)"},{"subitem_text_value":"Nottingham School of Economics, University of Nottingham (U.K.)"}]},"item_1693541285410":{"attribute_name":"書誌情報","attribute_value_mlt":[{"bibliographicIssueDates":{"bibliographicIssueDate":"2009-04-01","bibliographicIssueDateType":"Issued"},"bibliographicVolumeNumber":"DP09-01","bibliographic_titles":[{"bibliographic_title":"GRIPS Discussion Papers","bibliographic_titleLang":"en"}]}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"metadata only access"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"LEON-GONZALEZ, Roberto","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"TSENG, Fu-Min","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"mortality","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"relative income hypothesis","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"aggregation bias","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"technical report"}]},"item_title":"Socioeconomic Determinants of Mortality in Taiwan: Combining Individual Data and Aggregate Data","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Socioeconomic Determinants of Mortality in Taiwan: Combining Individual Data and Aggregate Data","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"12","owner":"16","path":["19"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2009-04-01"},"publish_date":"2009-04-01","publish_status":"0","recid":"1001","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Socioeconomic Determinants of Mortality in Taiwan: Combining Individual Data and Aggregate Data"],"weko_creator_id":"16","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-11-20T08:55:15.297298+00:00"}
