| 内容記述 | This paper reports on the findings of a year's participant-observation research in a culture hall in Niigata. It briefly places the research site in the contexts of: i) the situation of culture halls nationwide; ii) the national policies that have, and are affecting, their operation currently; and iii) the anthropological issues of the meaning of “culture” in Japan. It then discusses the daily administration of Niigata City Performing Arts and Culture Centre, and the impact current national policies are having on the ways in which “culture” and its provision is understood within the hall. | |||||||
